MY FOOD JOURNEY

One of the aspects of Shiatsu that drew me to the practice was the importance of diet and how it plays a significant role in our health, it’s a form of bodywork that really acknowledges Food as Medicine. In my practice, through assessment, we will discuss topics like lifestyle, diet, and health, so there will be space for sharing and learning.

If’s there’s one common thread between folks I meet or have worked with, they often say “I want to feel better, feel balanced, or look good.”  We all want to be healthy, it keeps us functioning with ease.  Food is essential to our well-being.  Some say it’s the medicine our bodies need, but only when we eat the right kinds of food.

Through my own health and healing journey I have discovered clean eating and the power of Food as Medicine.  I spent many years exploring different ways of eating, trying to find a way that would allow me to feel light, energized, satiated, and healthy.  I’ve learned from my own countless hours of research and personal experience, as well as having taken a course on Nutritional Therapy,  how to eat a clean diet and feel good about what I put in my body.

As my story goes…

I was around the age of 30 when I decided that I wanted to do whatever necessary to get myself in the best possible health as I started to think about where I wanted to be when I enter my latter years.  Triggered by a new decade and the feeling that something just wasn't right, I began thinking more about what I was putting in my body and I wanted to start making better choices knowing that my health was being impacted.  Over the course of the next 3 years or so, I developed food sensitivities, and eventually they became so severe that almost everything I ate would negatively affect my body.

Although my healing journey is still en route, I have made it through the rough waters. A decade later, as I've entered my 40's, I’ve learned a ton about the state of our food systems and vast deficits in the current American diet. I have done the dirty work for you by learning: the benefits of whole foods over processed foods, clean eating, that sugar is a drug we don’t talk about, Traditional Foods and preparation, Paleo concepts, Ketogenic concepts, Vegan/Vegetarian concepts, and alternatives to milk, cheeses, and sugar.  And through frustration of not having many cleaner foods to choose from at the grocery or the budget to buy them at times, I’ve learned how to make a lot of my own through research, study, and experimentation and I’m willing to share what I’ve learned with those who want to go in that direction.

The takeaway:

I want to help because I get it and there is no “one way is the right way” when it comes to diet, every body is different.  However, having a guideline for clean eating and the idea that food is medicine for our bodies can get you pretty far!
